H E I D R U N H O P P E A S S O C I A T E S is an architecture and planning firm specializing in facilities for child care, education and community projects: children's and senior centers, schools, sheltered and therapeutic facilities and many varied public and community assets. We have completed over 70 projects in these fields. HHA works with nonprofit and for-profit agencies, universities, individuals, municipalies and the US Armed services.
We also offer design services for commercial, office, religious and residential projects.
Repeat work with our clients attests to the direct and devoted attention every project receives. Our client's mission becomes our mission and, at the same time, we bring our experience and innovative thinking to bear on all options and opportunities.
HHA often collaborates with the client from the very beginning: to provide master planning, programming, feasibility, budget and site search/analysis, and many other tasks. These initial steps bring us an understanding of the client's goals and restrictions and the needs of the neighborhood and site.
The designed environment is important on every level, and HHA carries out projects of every scale: from new facilities, additions and renovations of existing buildings - including historic structures - to playgrounds, furniture and individual classroom enhancements.
We are committed to the integration of cost-effective sustainable design in our work and will pursue LEED certification when possible.
HHA is a woman-owned business and qualifies as a small business practice.
Facilities for children are a focus for HEIDRUN HOPPE ASSOCIATES.
The educational philosophy of the provider and the needs of communities and populations are carefully considered so that the building and its site will be a real asset in the lives of the children and staff, their families and the community.
We have designed extensively with the Reggio Emilia child development philosophy, and have traveled to Reggio Emilia, Italy, for firsthand experience at conferences and site visits.
Heidrun Hoppe is recognized as a leading authority in the field of children's facility design. She has been a guest lecturer on this topic for the Harvard School of Design Executive Education Program, Chicago Public Schools, the National Association for the Education of Young Children, IFF Building Blocks of Design Conference and for various other agencies.
